Perfect Celebrity Breakdown

Perfect Celebrity by Lady Gaga is a call out to the struggle of being a celebrity in this day and age. The following is my interpretation of the lyrics of Perfect Celebrity by Lady Gaga.

Intro
Oh, ooh, ah
Uh

Verse 1
I'm made of plastic like a human doll
You push and pull me, I don't hurt at all
I talk in circles 'cause my brain, it aches
You say, "I love you," I disintegrate

Pre-Chorus
I've become a notorious being
Find my clone, she's asleep on the ceilin'
Now, can't get me down
You love to hate me
I'm the perfect celebrity

Chorus
So rip off my face in this photograph
(Perfect celebrity)
You make me money, I'll make you laugh
(Perfect celebrity)
Show me your pretty, I'll show you mine
You love to hate me
I'm the perfect celebrity

Post-Chorus
Uh

Verse 2
I look so hungry. but I look so good
Tap on my vein, suck on my diamond blood
Choke on the fame and hope it gets you high
Sit in the front row, watch the princess die

Pre-Chorus
I've become a notorious being
Find my clone, she's asleep on the ceilin'
Now, can't get me down
You love to hate me
I'm the perfect celebrity

Chorus
So rip off my face in this photograph
(Perfect celebrity)
You make me money, I'll make you laugh
(Perfect celebrity)
Show me your pretty, I'll show you mine
You love to hate me
I'm the perfect celebrity

Post-Chorus
Na-na, na-na-na
(Perfect celebrity)
Na-na, na-na-na
(Perfect celebrity)
Na-na, na-na-na
(Perfect celebrity)
Na-na, na-na-na

Verse 1 Synopsis
Celebrities are always looked at on a higher stature, like a Barbie for example. But at the same time the backlash received from normal everyday things such as relationships, body size, and more cause the celebrity to feel hurt. Yet at the same time, they can have support. Which is not something is often publicized by celebrities. Saying "I love you" and meaning it to a celebrity could help their mental health tremendously.

Pre-Chorus Synopsis
I really enjoy the line about becoming a notorious being. It basically shows how much celebrities are "worshipped" in the current music industry. Just creating music could make a being that has so much power. Yet with her line " Find my clone, she's asleep on the ceilin'" really sat with me. I interpreted this as like her true self always being present when not on stage. But she will always be considered Lady Gaga. If you put this in your perspective, imagine not being able to be yourself for years because people have created a new you for you. That seems stressful to me at least. She is essentially the "Perfect Celebrity" when she is Lady Gaga but feels as though her true self will forever be hidden.

Chorus Synopsis
This whole chorus just feels like a "screw the industry" as well as the struggle of dealing with a fanbase. Some may love, some may hate, either way the people who judge don't know anything about Lady Gaga other than what she chooses to share publicly.

Verse 2 Synopsis
This verse is a nod to the constant comments about bodies celebrities have. No matter if you are large, small, or anywhere in between, you will receive backlash. Therefore causing pain yet at the same time, keeping her celebrity status fresh. She is calling out anyone who thinks they could do this fame too. Once you get here, there is no going back essentially.

Overall, this song feels like an anthem to her fans to show them how she actually feels. The anger she expresses also shows sincerity in her tone. This song is not something you just listen to in the club. This is something you listen to when you are sick of your friends constantly judging you or when you are mistreated and you need to get that anger out.
